Ultra High Definition FLYPAK™
TV Pro Gear’s multi-camera HD-SDI FLYPAK™ is a product designed around the needs of production crews wanting to produce high quality content. Using TV Pro Gear's patented CAMBOX™, the FLYPAK™ can be used with nearly every professional camera on the market. Seminars

Taking a video production system with you on the road often requires a large crew and fleet of vehicles with hours spent setting up at each new location. With the FLYPAK™ none of that rings true. Cameras

Be it, Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi, JVC, Grass Valley, Ikegami or the brand new RED camera, we can develop an integration solution around your preferred model. If you are unsure which camera is most appropriate to your needs and budget, our systems specialists will work closely with you to select the model that will maximize the benefits of the FLYPAK™.
Simply choosing the camera is just one of many steps. Because the FLYPAK™ is a fully functioning production studio it offers several options for camera control and configuration. A popular option for multi-camera productions is a Studio Configuaration with a camera control that can feed the FLYPAK™ uncompressed HD or SD video along with audio, Intercom, Tally, Camera Control, Return Video, Power, Timecode, Genlock, Robotic Control, and Teleprompter depending on the system chosen.
One option for camera control is one provided by the manufacturer connected to the FLYPAK™ via SMPTE Hybrid Fiber for uncompressed HD and power feeds, Tactical Fiber for uncompressed HD feeds requring an outside power source and Triax Cable which requires an additional power source and only supports uncompressed HD. Third-party camera control solutions are also available for cameras in each of the aforementioned connections including TV Pro Gear's multi-core solution that supports uncompressed HD and provides power. There is even the option to go wireless with a system from IDX that supports uncompressed HD without the hassles of cabling.
The final choice for your camera system is the tripod. Besides just budget and brand, the right tripod should be based on your application, the weight of the camera, and the conditions of your typical environment. We work closely with our clients to measure all these variables and select the best tripod from manufacturers including Miller, Cartoni, Vinten, Libec, Bogen, Sachtler and Manfrotto.
Recording
The Flypak™ offers various options for recording:
Tape
We can integrate any of the standard tape-based HD or SD VTRs on the market. When recording only to tape, we always recommend at least two decks. The main deck records the line cut with a secondary deck handling B-Roll and backup duties for the main feed. The unpredictability of live productions make it extremely important to have a back up VTR.
Tapeless
Most of the FLYPAK™ today ship out in a tapeless configuration. These tapeless solutions are typically Quicktime based allowing the line cut to be recorded from start to finish as an HD or SD Quicktime file without the hassles an expenses of tape. When recording is finished, the Quicktime file is native to several editing platforms meaning you can begin editing your video immediately after production is complete. No reviewing, logging tapes, digitizing or loss of quality due to transcoding.
ISO
Depending on the production, you might want to record each ISOlated camera Point Of View (ISO) providing alternative choices to the main feed during a live production. The FLYPAK's™ I/O panel is configured to have output every camera in use. Several of our clients have us build an Auxiliary Half-Rack FLYPAK™ Case configured with multiple VTR’s (tape or tapeless). By connecting this to the I/O panel, you can now ISO your cameras with the same recorder as your line cut.
Slow-Mo Playback
An important feature for our sports clients is the capabilities of Slow-Motion and Instants Replay Playback. By integrating a 2CH DDR with Slow-Mo capabilities such as the EVS, Omneon or DoReMi, the Fypak™ can be equipped with this feature, providing replay from one or all of your camera ISO’s to give you any angle you want upon playback.
DVD
A standard feature on the FLYPAK™ is DVD recording. Besides recording the Line Cut to a master tape or tapelessly to a hard drive, you can record straight to DVD. This allows the producer, director, talent or your client to immediately walk away from the production with a DVD playable version. A great solution for live productions not requiring much editing or students looking for a quick example of their work.
Switchers & CG
The typical Flypak™ is configured with an 8 to 12 input switcher that is capable of 1 to 2 Mix & Effects (M/E). A few of such switchers we offer include Ross, For-A, Broadcast Pix, Thomson-Grass Valley, Panasonic, and Sony. If there is a switcher you prefer, we can integrate it. Otherwise, our Integration Specialist will make a recommendation following an extensive analysis of your needs and budget.
For most live productions, a CG is important. We typically configure the FLYPAK™ with one of three CG options. In Option 1 we install an external CG such as the Chyron. Option 2 includes a switcher with built-in CG such as the Broadcast Pix. For Option 3, the Flypak™ I/O panel feeds the switcher with a DVI input. This allows the use of an external laptop as a CG. Each option has its own strengths and benefits. Our systems specialist will work closely with you to choose the one best-suited to your needs.
Audio
Audio is an important piece to all productions. We configure all FLYPAKs™ with an audio mixer fed by various sources including an 8CH audio snake that plugs into the FLYPAK's™ I/O panel, multiple inputs on the I/O panel for house feeds, and multiple wireless mic receivers installed for audio feeds from the talent and cameras.
With the mixer, all these feeds are mixed down and recorded with the Video Line Cut providing a seamless integration of sound and picture with top-quality results.
Monitoring
The FLYPAK™ uses a 42”-50” Plasma or LCD screen for monitoring. The High-Definition Display is mounted on an electric lift. With a push of a button, the monitor rises from the FLYPAK™. During transportation, the monitor drops down into the FLYPAK™ and locks into place for a secure storage. Using a screen splitter, each cameras' ISO, Program Preview, Program Record, Aux Bus and Waveform are brought up to this monitor for viewing of up to ten images simultaneously. This gives the FLYPAK's™ all the capabilities provided a multi-screen fixed production studio.
Flypak™ Shell & Frame
We designed the FLYPAK™ frame to accommodate all the equipment and wiring while maintaining an ergonomic height and alignment for comfortable operating positions during the production. The double-welded steal interior frame is shock-mounted to the FLYPAK™ shell allowing unparalleled protection of equipment during transportation. In addition, the inner frame is foamed to reduce vibration. The outer shell is a specially laminated material that designed to prevent cosmetic damage and visible wear to the exterior of the FLYPAK™. This case provides the security, durability and workability necessary for the most complex and daunting live production environments.
Accessory Flypak™
The FLYPAK™ is a completely self-contained studio with all equipment installed, wired and ready to work at all times. But what about the equipment that isn’t permanently mounted in the FLYPAK™ such as cameras, tripods, cables reels, microphones, intercom headsets and beltpaks, etc? We’ve thought about that too!
When purchasing a FLYPAK™ one of the recommended options is to purchase an Accessory FLYPAK™. During transportation and when you show up to your production the Accessory FLYPAK™ looks identical to your mobile studio. Same size & same material. But removing the transportaion covers reveals a series of custom-tailored foamed drawers and shelves.
The drawers are uniquely foamed to fit the accessories. For example, if you have four cameras, there will be four custom foamed drawers that the cameras perfectly slide into providing the ultimate in protection for your valuable equipment. The Accessory FLYPAK™ is designed to hold all the miscellaneous loose equipment. No more showing up with plastic boxes - now you show up looking professional with easy-to-find equipment that is fully protected and easily stored to prevent anything from getting lost!

AT&T
TV Pro Gear recently delivered a pair of robotic HD FLYPAK™ mobile production studios to AT&T in Texas.
The company will use the portable production solutions to produce, record and stream conferences and other corporate events to their hundreds of locations across the country to be seen by an audience of more than 50,000 viewers at any time. The small footprint and easy mobility of the FLYPAK™ allows them to cover events all around Texas at a minimal cost and hassle.
The mobile studio is outfitted with a trio of Panasonic AK-HC1500G HD robotic cameras that can be controlled from the FLYPAK™. This allows complete covrage of a live production to be mounted by a lone operator if necessary.
For recording TV Pro Gear integrated both an AJ-HD1400 VTR and HD Quicktime recorder allowing AT&T to create both an HD master tape and a digital file native to their Final Cut Pro systems requiring no encoding, transcoding or ingest time to prep for post-production.

Mosaic
Mosaic, a Los Angeles-area church with multiple sites and several services each weekend needed to find a way to produce multiple camera programs. They wanted the live cuts of these programs recorded onto both DVD and DVCam. Additionally, they required switchable feeds to three large screen projectors.
They needed a system capable of all this that is also easy to ship anywhere in the world. They wanted a quick set up without much wiring. Also, due to uncertain power conditions, the entire unit needed to be capable of being self-powered.
TV Pro Gear’s solution to their dilemma was a Flypak. According to Mosaic producer Chad Becker, “The flypak that TV Pro Gear built for us met all of our expectations and then some. All-Star Entertainment
All-Star Entertainment called TV Pro Gear with a problem: It was August 1st and their contract with Time Warner to film football games in the
Coachella
Valley for same-day broadcast was set to commence on September 12th. They needed a portable three camera studio and needed it quickly.
Within a week, TV Pro Gear delivered detailed plans and a firm budget. Soon thereafter, they came through with a Flypak that allowed All-Star Entertainment to get on the air in no time.
