TV Pro Gear was selected by an IPTV Start-Up to be the design and installation company for its new 10 channel IPTV television production facility.
TV Pro Gear built the entire Irvine facility, which features an Apple-based HD/SD tapeless workflow incuding Apple RAIDs, Servers and 7 Final Cut Studio 2 editing bays on a XSAN network.
“Each of our channels needs to be capable of instantaneously responding to the needs of both our production staff and our end-users. The Apple-based HD/SD tapeless workflow combined with Gallery’s PictureReady software enables us to edit content as it’s produced,” said the company's engineering director.
The studio is comprised of three stages, equipped with JVC GY-HD250 cameras mounted on Miller tripods and pedestals. The high definition cameras, in conjunction with TVPG’s patented Cambox™, allows the new company to process the HD-SDI output to SD for the web, and edit the uncompressed HD for DVD or broadcast distribution.
The innovative Cambox™ carries HD-SDI video and audio, a ClearCom 4 channel intercom system, back to master control, while at the same time sending genlock, time code, tally lights and power to the camera.
In the master control room, a For-A HVS-500HS HD/SD switcher was chosen for its versatility, having both digital and analog inputs and outputs and could be custom built for their exact needs. A Miranda Kaleido-Alto-HD display processor allows the viewing of up to 10 images on a single plasma display. An AJA Kona LHE card captures full 10 bit uncompressed video to the RAID. On the audio side, M-Audio mixers were chosen for both master control and the editing bays. All the production and post-production equipment is housed in TBC Consoles Smart Trac consoles.
According to Chan Mahon, President of TV Pro Gear, “The challenge for us was to design and build a complete studio facility from the ground up that utilizes an HD/SD tapeless workflow capable of capturing and editing up to twelve hours of programming a day for each of 10 internet stations. In addition,” Mahon continued, “the three studios had to be able to edit live video on the fly and sent it out to our web servers located in San Diego for immediate webcasting.”
