DirecTV recently selected HonVietTV to be a part of its new Vietnamese-language package. TV Pro Gear helped the channel upgrade its facilities in order to meet the quality demands of the nation's biggest satellite provider.
The centerpiece of the project is an Automated Broadcast Playout System specifically designed to meet the needs of a 24/7 network airing on DirecTV. This SD System interacts seamlessly with HonViet’s existing equipment as well as the upgraded equipment TV Pro Gear installed. TV Pro Gear built the playout system with the future in mind, leaving room for an easy upgrade to more controls, options, additional channels, and a High Definition Upgrade.
This system supports Quicktime DV25 Resolution files and is configured to support the 24/7 content of the network. TV Pro Gear can wired it directly to their master control room allowing for a seamless sharing of content between the playout system and the installed editing suites, VTRs, monitors and machine room. The Fork allows for playout of two streams of content: one is programming while the second is commercials and promo spots. This data is stored on a Ciprico MediaVault that allows for over 2-weeks worth of programming to be stored online.
TV Pro Gear integrated the fork to work seamlessly with the rest of HonViet’s equipment compliment. It ingests material from both their VTRs and Final Cut Pro Station. The FCP files uses GigE, instantly registering the content on the server. The Fork system can also include traffic software, allowing for automatic billing, and can be easily upgraded to add extra channels and HD.
The Master Control Switcher is a Miranda Imagestor which allows for direct additions of logos and graphics for branding. It includes an image splitter giving the 50” plasma monitor the ability to display ten images at once.
TV Pro Gear linked several other stations to the automated playout system including a machine room with the capability to ingest content from nearly every format in use today and a Master Control Room featuring a Miranda Imagestor and a compliment of monitors and speakers that allow for accurate observation of content on the air. The studio upgrade is finished with a Final Cut Pro Editing System and a generous storage system for digitally archiving programming. This allows Honviet to effectively track and store its content in a way that has it at the ready for air in an instant.
This broadcast studio upgrade allowed HonViet to get its content on the air in time for its adoption by DirecTV while improving the company’s efficiency in the process.
