As Guerrilla Union continued to grow into one of the leading production companies for live music events in
Southern California they decided the time had come to create their own in-house recording facility.
TV Pro Gear delivered a complete turnkey production facility complete with a Stage, Camera System, Control Room and Central Apparatus Room. The facility is based around a complete HD Quicktime tapeless workflow allowing for easy file sharing at fast speeds.
The Cameras are mounted on the stage using Bogen/Manfrotto tripods and set in an ESI robotic camera system. These cameras feed directly into the machine room using TV Pro Gear’s Camera Control System and the ESI allows full control of the units from the control room, eliminating the need for a camera crew. TV Pro Gear chose JVC GY-HD250 Cameras for their ability to produce native 1280x720p images.
Each camera is outfitted with a Proprompter II LCD Teleprompter, a very lightweight option with the ability to have script fed to it directly from the control room. TV Pro Gear built an access panel capable of supporting five cameras into the stage for easy cable removal and installed a giant green screen into the back of the stage built on a curvature to give an infinity look.
In the control room TV Pro Gear installed a Miranda Alto Screen Splitter with the ability to send ten HDSDI video feeds onto one Panasonic 50” Plasma, saving Guerrilla Union money without sacrificing quality. In addition to the screen splitter, TV Pro Gear added a Panasonic HV-HS300G switcher to support the three cameras and Mackie 1202 VLZ3 Audio Mixer capable of mixing up to 12 channels of audio.
All audio and video signals are brought to a patch that leads directly into the facility’s machine room. Within the room, are an Apple Xserve and Gallery Virtual VTR that allows for recording of the program feed and footage from each camera. This can be configured to a high-quality Quicktime 100Mbps file accessible by Final Cut Pro without any ingest time. The Xserve allows for storage of approximately 47 hours of content. Also in the control room is a Pro Tools room that allows GU to record all audio channels and line mix from the Mackie Mixer.
In addition to the complete studio, TV Pro Gear left Guerrilla Union room to grow, allowing for upgrades like a SAN System, Web Streaming Capabilities and additional edit suites and camera controls.
