In order to better serve its students, Framingham State College added a video production course to its communications curriculum with the help of the FLYPAK™ from TV Pro Gear (http://www.tvprogear.com), a leading systems integration and mobile solutions provider for the broadcast, production, and post industries.
The FLYPAK™ is a portable HD video production studio chosen by
Framingham for its ability to produce professional quality video in studio applications as well as in the field. Communication Arts Department chair, Robert Johnson, Jr., feels that the versatile system is a perfect fit for the classroom and will allow his students to gain tremendous experience in every area of video production.
“The FLYPAK™ was a perfect choice for my class due to its ability to function in multiple environments,” said Johnson, “Now I can educate my students in all aspects of video production with one unit instead of exhausting our entire budget to install multiple systems."
Johnson found the FLYPAK™’s versatility extended beyond the classroom. In addition to using it as a teaching tool,
Framingham
State will use the portable studio to cover football games, guest lectures and other events around campus.
“With the mobile production studio the applications are endless,” Johnson delighted, “We can wheel it from site-to-site and classroom-to-classroom; it seems the FLYPAK™ can handle all our production and education needs in a package that’s incredibly easy to transport."
It’s not just
Framingham ’s staff that’s thrilled with the Mobile HD Studio; the college’s Communication Arts students are impressed as well.
“The FLYPAK™ is great! The initial reaction by the students and myself is this is a serious machine. All of the components work well, and it is easy to use. I am looking forward to using it in my future classes.” Said James Bock, a professor in the Communication Arts Department.
TV Pro Gear custom built the FLYPAK™ to
Framingham
State ’s specifications. This included a For-A HVS-500HS HD-SDI Switcher, a 42” Panasonic Plasma Display and Miranda Kaleido HD Screen Splitter. The students will capture the action on three Sony DXC-D55WSH Cameras that they can control from the FLYPAK™ and record it on a Sony DSR1500a DVCAM recorder. TV Pro Gear took the extra step of adding a Panasonic DMR-E228 DVD Recorder to the mobile studio so the students can walk away with their own copy of their recorded productions.
TV Pro Gear had
Framingham ’s future in mind with the design of the FLYPAK™. Though the college only required an SD solution, TV Pro Gear designed and integrated the FLYPAK™ with an easy HD upgrade path allowing
Framingham a smooth transition to HD when they are ready to make the switch. This will let the school stay current without having to deal with the headaches and expense of a total system makeover down the road.
TV Pro Gear sees the FLYPAK™ as an ideal educational tool and video production system for colleges and high schools looking to maximize their budgets. The company looks forward to providing more schools with similar solutions in the near future.
“We’re very excited to introduce the FLYPAK™ into the education market,” said Chan Mahon, President of TV Pro Gear, “With its flexibility, our FLYPAK™ can record a lecture in the morning, a sports event in the afternoon and an art performance in the evening at different location on the same campus or a remote site. I don’t think there’s a better value out there for schools that need to maximize every dollar they spend. It provides teachers an affordable way to give students the ability to get their hands on state-of-the-art equipment on their way to becoming experts in every area of video production.”
